The Tri-agency Institutional Programs Secretariat (TIPS), housed within the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, administers a suite of research programs on behalf of Canada’s three research funding agencies. One of these programs is the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF), which supports bold, innovative thinking that brings disciplines together, proposes unique scientific directions, and challenges current research paradigms. With three different streams (Exploration, Transformation and International), NFRF is pushing research boundaries in Canada by supporting ground-breaking interdisciplinary, high risk/high reward and transformative research.
What you will do
As a Manager in the NFRF team, you will play an integral role in the delivery of this innovative fund. The NFRF team offers a stimulating and rewarding work environment with opportunities to interact with researchers from all disciplines across Canada and the world. As a Manager in the NFRF team, your responsibilities will include:
- Leading a team in delivering funding opportunities under one of the streams of the NFRF program, including post-award and reporting stages. Working with committees of reviewers, ensuring adherence to policies, processes and criteria, for the fair and equal assessment of each application submitted to funding opportunities.
- Contributing to and supporting the delivery of all funding opportunities under all NFRF streams. Collaborating with colleagues across the team and across the organization to optimize program delivery and monitoring.
- Supervising, coaching and providing guidance to a team of employees including Program Officers and a Program Assistant.
- Leading and contributing to special initiatives and projects. Developing options and strategies to improve delivery and outcomes of the funding opportunities. Providing policy analyses and recommendations to the Director and Senior Management.
- Supporting Senior Management in the development of strategic plans and objectives, policy and procedures, joint initiatives, performance monitoring and reporting.
What you need to succeed
Education
-
A degree from a recognized university with research and/or administrative experience or an appropriate combination of education, experience and training. A graduate degree would be considered an asset.
Experience
- Experience supervising and coaching a team of employees, including implementing HR-related policies

Experience in managing, overseeing, or contributing to the administration of grants or awards within federal granting agencies or other relevant organizations

Experience leading, planning, and executing projects

Experience developing and maintaining working relationships with partners from other departments and organizations

Experience developing policy informed by research and analyses
Asset:

Research experience in a university, post-secondary, government, private or similar setting

Experience in developing and/or implementing program performance measurement, according to federal performance measurement and evaluation policies and standards
Knowledge

Knowledge of the research community and of the structure of research and research funding in Canadian universities and colleges
